Unbroken

Just finished reading the book Unbroken and all I can say is...  Wow!Wow! Wow!  This is a story of survival, resilience and redemption. Reading it will make me more resilient, no more complaining from me, I have absolutely nothing to complain about. If you have a chance the book is called , Unbroken and you can find it in most book stores and on line. A riveting story of faith and courage.

Settling In

We we had three days last week and I thank you for greeting the kids which such enthusiasm and for making sure your kids know the rules of the school and your class.

NR rule- No running
NH - NH rule- no hats - no hoodies except on Fridays

Rules are so much easier to enforce when you are in the class when the bells rings. Ensuring your kids are out of your classroom when they/you head out for recess helps to enforce the guidelines for conduct.

Of course our Spirit rule makes all rules work- calm and cool, calm and cool......that is what we are.

Money and budget- WE Are officially a POOR SCHOOL.

As it sits now we are 16% over where we should be in terms of budget expenditures. So, we are tightening our visa/purse/piggy bank strings.

Our biggest issue is the photocopier costs. It has cost us $4000 more than projected so far this year. Due to may reasons the copier being down , wastage and higher price per copy on other machines. Our new machine cost   .9 cents per page old machines cost 1.6 cents per page. I only expect the costs to get worse until this machine is replaced or we figure out if we really need all those pages for our kids. Data shows that we copy 3170 pages per child at this school. As comparable is Ridgeview and they have 20 students more than us, they copy 2755 pages per student.

This is just info. Other costs we incurred which moved us into the poor house are the shed, desks and substitutes. There are times when I will get two unqualified people for a class when I can't get a qualified and that can be costly.

Spending little to no money for the next four weeks will set us back on track.

Staffing

Rob Wilson is in all week. He is doing the two days in the library and is subbing for Erica as she has body parts removed. She will be out this Wednesday and all of next week. Braedyn will be in next week for her. Rob is off to Australia for a dream trip.

Carmen S is out Monday- Breadyn is in

Andrew is out Tuesday, then for the entire week. Emily and Braedyn are sharing subbing in for that.

Kim and I are doing aspiring leaders Thursday pm. Jane Chesnutt is in for Kim.

Andrew o is heading to a math conference with Geri in the mountains he will be away on the Friday and Monday. He was invited to go. That is an honor. Jane is in there on Friday and  Emily on Monday.

I am gone Friday pm and then will be gone until the morning of the 28th. I am adding some personal days and days in lieu to go home and see my Mom and dad they have no idea. Should be good for a heart attack- I think i'll you tube it!! Then to Thunder Bay and then Edmonton for recruiting.

( can't embed clips it tells me we are in safety mode I will figure this out. )

Happenings

Shane and I will be walking through more often. Just honing our skills in balanced lit who better to model for us than you. You are good at what you do, we'd like to compliment you.

High :Level sign is staying here until Wednesday. If you or your kids want to use this as a part of  writing or speaking kids can stay in there and say what they like about High Level. What services they like best or Why they like living in High level. record it and the town will include it in their video they are creating.

In following our hard schedule we have a balanced literary meeting after school Monday. We will discuss our family event on January 27th.

Math team meets at 4:00 on Tuesday.

Exploratories start on Friday. Please forward your write up to Shelly. They are such fun. Grade fours sign up first.

Friday jokes can we be sure that you have heard the joke before they kids tell them over announcements. Not wanting a blonde joke or equally undesirable joke  to pop in their by accident some day. Janelle has a joke she can tell ya!

Christmas Break- Kids will be starting to open up about what happened over holidays. We listen , we stay calm, we get kids what they need. Who better to listen than the person they trust most- you.

Support staff we are setting up a precision reading training session next week after school for half and hour. We will let you know the specific date. You will be paid for this time.

There are four solid weeks before we break again for quite a few days. lets have it be a rigorous four weeks were we get caught up and do the best teaching we can. We are all teachers in this building.
