Hello January!!

 Wow! January was feeling left out and decided to greet us with a lovely blizzard. I had to climb over a meter high, snow drift to get out my front door this morning. You've gotta love that this storm happened when most travellers were already home. If not, we will get to hear your travel story on Friday. 

 Buses are cancelled today. Hopes are the kids will stay nestled in their beds one day longer until we get this storm cleaned up. 

 Luckily, we come back to work and continue to impact the lives of teenagers. They are seeking normalcy. We will need to be the listeners. They will tell us the stories of their holiday. Some stories will be so cool, others not. Be ready for it. Please remember our students and staff have access to counselors. Just say the word.

 Discovery

 If you watch Netflix, look for "Marie Kondo", she has a show about tidying up. Needless to say my dresser drawers are all tidied up. I have a huge garbage bag of clothes to donate. The weight off your shoulders when you tidy up is freeing. Next, I am on to tidying my books. I have a million books but can only keep those that Spark Joy.

Please forward any topics you'd like covered. This will be a great get together as we missed a get together on Nov 2nd when we had diplomas and others did not. 

 I will be cooking our lunch! My mom taught me her secret spaghetti sauce recipe while we were in Grande Prairie. So it is, we will have salad, spaghetti and garlic toast. Looking forward to serving you!

 Things we have to pay attention to 

 Diplomas- As teachers you are in charge of ensuring your students know when these diplomas are as well as preparing the students for success on these diplomas. That means lots of conversations with students about the diplomas. Remember calm is cool. Anxiety is the reason many students choose us sooooo, a calm cool, I know you've got this approach is needed. 

 Diplomas- Supervision of diplomas- A document will be created which shows who is where for these diplomas. We have people writing in each location. 

 Digital writers- teachers have asked the students if they want to write digitally. Diploma administrators need to familiarize themselves with this process. Only chromebooks will be used no laptops. It makes it much easier accessing codes etc...this way. Tech has assured me we are ready this time round.

    I find books hard to purge. I like purging my kitchen, nothing much in there sparks joy...except the food :)

    My sister told me about Marie Kondo's book a couple years ago. I started my tidying marathon then and got through clothes, books and most of my papers, got stalled on komono, so much stuff in this category! I watched the netfilx episodes over Christmas so I'm hoping to continue on in the new year! It really is so freeing. Been wanting to to this thorough tidy for so long

Report Card Week A terrific way to catch up with our kids, a time to think deeply about that student and where they are going. A teacher always asks themselves , how well do i know that student. If the answer is not well, we seek to get to know them better next semester. Report Cards are valuable to the student and their families and the process is so valuable to us. We can always do better.  Thank Yous Thanks  so much to all of you who took in the PD last week. Speedy Memo

While on the airplane, I looked quizzically at the woman beside me wearing a mask... Ha! Turns out She knew germs were flying around that plane. Now, I have those sickness germs and she's partying somewhere! Note to self...masks look ridiculous but keep you germ-free!!!  Or perhaps the story goes this way... she had some horrible cold and it seeped out from her mask to infect me... Either way, she has a part to play in this mini illness, of that I am sure!   Lots going on this week- please remember that we are 1 week from May our kids need to pour it on these next few weeks.   Stanley Cup playoffs are continuing with just a few rounds to finish. Go Toronto, go Winnipeg!  Report cards are due Wed they go home on Friday. Parent-teacher interviews are happening in the weeks ahead. Those dates will be solidified this week.  PAT part A is in for grade nines. That is written middle of May. Nait comes to High Level. A counselor and two journeyman carpenters are coming to

Action

This week in our CRM's we talked about our students and assigned actions to several. We are starting to figure this out;  people are coming forward to volunteer to do that action. In the past, we sat back waiting to see who might be assigned. Now, you are developing relationship with these students and are saying, " I can do that, I know her pretty well." or " I'd like to try to make contact with him, I have a soft spot for him."  That is the way CRM's are supposed to function, thank you for stepping up. CRM's ground us for the month to come. No kid is falling through the cracks without us grabbing his or her arm and trying to pulling him back on track. Wow! Cliche ville there! All English teachers are cringing!  Congratulations Congratulations to Eva, Bonnie, Dean and Jenine.
