We have an exceptionally strong staff, and community support of Outreach. They know we rescue kids. Together, our attitude is “we will do whatever it takes to help our students build the skills they need to be successful."
We are 8 days from well deserved holidays. My message is that we must realize the inequity of the celebrations. For some you will ask how was your Christmas? They may not have celebrated at all. They just want the season to be over. That is true for adults as well. Just recognize that fact.
Look for the kid who needs you to chit chat with them today. There is one student who hangs his head an plays games at his table. He helped me down load a game and I used it when there was no connection on the airplane. That boy will talk to me now. He's a WK ( weird kid). Find that common ground. Each day someone should be engaging each student you may the only person he/she talks to that day.
It doesn't have to be talk. Go around and hand out granola bars. Give out candies. Show her a picture you took. That's what we are good at, breaking through walls. Our boy who came to us totally covered. I mean mask over his whole face and black gloves on... well we can now see his fingers and his eyes and Allan had a great conversation with him last week. Little steps people, little steps.
Look After You
Please take some time to look after yourself these next few weeks. Poor a cup of coffee, sit and relax. Watch the snowfall and don't curse it. You do everything for others, you are important and you know what you need, do things for you.
Christmas at Outreach
On Thursday I will be coming to the Learning Store in La Crete. I will come with gifts in tow and a bit of food. You don't bring a thing. We will have a mini ( can i say chinese gift exchange) A better name eludes me right now, apologies. We will do this after the CRM at 2:00.
On Friday with presents in tow we will have a gift exchange, mini party in High Level. I am bringing all the presents and food. You don't bring a thing. Will be fun to see what people will fight for. We will do this at 2:00 on Friday.
Staffing
- Leah is out today
- I am out the three days next week. Taking those days makes me 65%, I'll figure out the other days sometime or never. I have a dental in Edmonton, do not want to go to that one... we will see.
- Diploma's happen right after we get back. Please contact the kids and let them know when they are writing. Any challengers need to write this week.
- Parent teacher interviews took place and it was great to touch base with the parents, they can affect things. If you missed someone, this week, you can still catch up. Leaving a message isn't enough, dig deeper. Go to the emergency contact.
- In High Level our school staff are bringing chocolates in for the 50+ hampers we give out to families. The chocolates are collected by Bonnie's desk. Those hampers go out this week.
- In High Level our custodian is out, her little daughter is in hospital in Edmonton. She is getting better but is staying there for 4 more days for further observation. We will see if we can get someone to cover that time. Until, then we will all pitch in where we can and pray for healing hands.
- CRM La Crete on Thursday at 2:00.
- Students- with 17 days away. Please set students up with work they can do over the holidays. Just ask them if they need more.
- Marking- Students are looking for feedback. Our window of getting things marked in one week is a non negotiable. One week and it is back to kids, it should be a rare occasion when that does not happen.
- Finishing a course- it used to be that in High Level we would wait till month end to enter final marks. We are now doing it weekly. Students DAR's will be accurate within a week. This sure helps when counseling a student or having a grad meeting with them. Thanks to all who make that happen. Eva in La Crete does it daily as she has access to those tracking sheets at her desk. Lovely thanks to all for doing that it helps students so much.
Enjoy your holiday. Be safe and get outdoors!
