Relax it's the healthy thing to do.

Hoping you choose to relax over the break. It is a healthy thing to do. We do love the frog, as he can only move forward never backward. Some of you went forward this week. Some went to Cuba, Some to Vegas, some to Phoenix, some to Jasper, some to Edmonton. Some chose the relaxed life. Good for all of you!!

Moving forward, we have so many great things happening in the months to come. All good things.

During convention I realized that there are so many things we do right as a school. We give kids what they need in order to learn. Breakfasts, lunches, a significant other to tell their secrets and stories to, swimsuits and towels, skates, jackets and mittens- whatever our kids need to survive we give it to them. But most importantly we give them someone to bond with so they are able to learn. Relationships, relationships, relationships are key. Are you a true relationship builder???? Dr. Phil McRae says that the are the first generation in which neglect, not abuse is the number one ailment in families. Parents are letting technology raise their kids, they aren't. The new baby rattle is an I- phone 6. Interesting, there is a place for technology and a time for technology but technology doesn't replace relationships.

Thanks so much to you ladies

Words can jot express how thankful and grateful we are that Tina and Samantha are at our school. These ladies are our back bone, our foundation and our cornerstone. Without these ladies we fall apart. Ladies we notice your work everyday and thank you for all you do for us at Spirit. The front hall looks fabulous!!! So welcoming.

Staffing

We so welcome Kim back. Its never okay when one of us is missing. She is feeling soo much better and is already planning for things like our Evening of the Arts. Hard to keep up with  that girl!

We have a sub in for Susan on Science fair day and are looking for one for Valyne. We will likely pull from our own staff for that.

Parent teacher interviews on Wednesday and Thursday. Super time to have them, its a short week. Everyone is rested up. We are excited to chat with parents.

Soon we will be doing the Tell Them survey with students and staff.

Science Fair day is this Friday. If you know of any scientific minds who could judge  for us that would be so welcome.

Next week we have an assembly on Tuesday during periods 5 and 6. The dancers are coming.

Pink day is next Wednesday start talking about Pink now to your kids please.

Exploartoreis start next week on Friday.

Career day is next Thursday, encourage kids to dress as a career.

So much of what I took away from convention had to do with the widening gap of poverty among our children and their families. It is harder for families to make ends meet now a days. Rents are high, food prices are high, demands of children for technology are high. How do families make it. Well they make it when communities decode to look after the needs of everyone and focus on quality of  life and making success obtainable by all. Offering all that we offer kids allows them the opportunity to build they skills the need to pull their families out of poverty.

Please post what the most impacting thing you learned over break was. You had ten days to learn outside of school what did you learn? I am interested in knowing. Three random people will get a cool little gift in their mail box for their responses.

  1. I saw leadership through the eyes of Ernest Shackleton, an explorer who sailed to Antarctica in the early 1900's. He led through sacrifice and by example to his men. Because of this, they survived an impossible struggle. He is truly a mentor to us as leaders.

  2. I've learned that it's okay to fall down...you just need to get back up!!! I've also learned that I work with some of the most caring and compassionate people on this planet ... thanks for being awesome! 👍👍

  3. I learned that it is important to keep the mind healthy and to keep the top 3 distractions (digital, amount of information/over-load, and multi-tasking) into consideration while teaching.

As well, I agree that the floors are looking very nice, so good that Jackson was afraid to walk on them because he thought they was slippery.

  4. I think the thing I learned over break was that things aren't just going to happen for me, if I really want something I will have to do everything to make sure it happens.

  5. Erica, I totally agree with you. We have to create our own opportunities. I learned the importance of relaxation this break. I never thought of myself as a busy person when I compare my workload to others but it wasn't until the break that I realized how exhausted I was. I need to be a little better about knowing what my body needs hahaha
