I did see a red bird in my tree that icy day!!! Thank yous Thanks to Paul, Petra, Holly, Bonnie, Gaye, Landon, Maddie and Bonnie's Mom for helping out with our rummage sale in High Level. The students thank you from the bottom of their hearts for your time( it was considerable). Cool People

Image
Monday, January 25th, 2016  I had a chance to meet some cool people while I was out in Thunder Bay. Emilia is a Prof at Lakehead University who is going to retire then volunteer on reserves helping with their educational systems. She is intrigued by the North. I learned so much from her. Mariella is soon to graduate with her education degree. She has a 28 year old sister who is autistic and has devoted her life to building awareness around disabilities. She wants everyone to know that people with disabilities are people first then they are austistic or downs or have cerebral palsy. I learned so much from her.  Stan the cab driver who gets bored and has karaoke set up in the taxi. Usually he just sings on his own ( how he reads the words and drives at the same time not sure!!) He put on any song we wanted. Sweet Caroline was our choice. I learned a lot from him, he makes his job fun!!  Do you meet new people...

Now We Know Why Bear's Hibernate

Haaaaaallllllllooo from the other sssssiiiiiddddddeeeee........... Anyone who knows this hit songs will understand that reference.  January is behaving like January. That is fine as long as April behaves like April and June behaves like June. We are Canadian and we don't complain. Although the title of this  blog sounds a trite whiny.  We have to be careful that we don't complain when we have such blessings. Many families are going through turmoil with the blip in our economy and we have to respect that everyone will feel the ripple effect of this down turn. Our kids will feel it in their families and  we will too. You will feel it when you try to buy cauliflower for $9.00 a head. In Tulita NWT, flour is $56.00 for 10 kg. yikes. Count your blessings every day.  Congratulations to two Students We congratulate Sabrina Paul from Fort Learning Store. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl, named Laurel, over two weeks ago....

Keep Calm It's January

Image
Keep Calm and carry on is a saying that appeared on posters during the war. The British government created them and now we have suddenly taken to this phrase. Keeping calm and cool is always good. Imagine a paramedic who lost his or her cool... yikes. Imagine a policemen who lost his cool going to a domestic dispute... yikes Imagine a teacher/educator who lost their cool, who worried, thought the worst of everything and panicked. Yikes!!!   Keeping calm is cool . In High Level we are going through a move and are doing it with grace and calm. Our move date is coming soon and there will be little difficulties. One thing we know is, that it will get done, we will move and it will be a coooooool change for us. We will keep calm and carry on! Calm is always cool! Diploma Weeks Ahead Well its diploma week. I thank Alex for doing a diploma prep for his students in La Crete. No one showed for the Language Arts prep, but once kids un...

First Blog of 2016

Cheers to you all! " I wish the holiday would be over and school would start back up again on Monday," stated a student  after delivering Christmas  baskets to several families. The truth is that the holidays are tough times for many. We have always been excellent at listening to our students. This year will be no exception. The students need to be heard. Thank you for listening to their holiday stories.  Hoping you took the time to listen to yourself and get the sleep you needed, the calm you needed and the outdoor time you needed too! It's been beautiful in the north this Christmas. Plenty of opportunities to get out there and breath the clean northern air! but certainly it is time for us to get back into routines. People, animals, nature survive on routines!   Welcome Back In High Level, we welcome back Gayle, our student wellness coordinator, who has managed significant health issues over th...
