Everything I Know I Learned in Nashville
Mornin' Y'all,
You must know the book, Everything I Know, I learned in Kindergarten. The books says all the skills he needed for life, were taught in that one year in Kindergarten.
Well here's my take on it,
Everything I Know I Learned in Nashville. These are my notes from my sessions
- Don't get tired of being nice to people, that's your job.
- Every single child has the potential to go to college
- We want students to be able to provide for their families
- Stats say if you go to college you will make more money
- There are programs out there at colleges and Universities for at Risk youth
- The part of the brain responsible for emotion is also responsible for learning so....
- I'll be here for you, but you have to do the work! ( this is revolutionary)
- Second chances are the power of educators to change lives
- Some of our kids have lives two lifetimes....
- Educators need to bounce back quickly from our failures... we model that for our students. Educators have failures!!
- In the old days we taught, " respect your elders"... In today's world children are taught," Don't let anyone disrespect you." ( interesting shift)
- Students only explain themselves to people they respect.
- People in Nashville are so kind and polite. It's a lovely place to visit, so much history.
More notes to come next week. I have pages and pages on my phone...

What's pending this week
Report cards go home on Friday.
Parent teacher interviews are happening in La Crete and High Level next week. They will take place in Fort the next week.
We are presenting to the board the last week of November at a board meeting. I will be asking our Fort Vermilion students to speak at this board meeting. They want to school to be open more often. Are there items you would like brought up to the board? This is our opportunity to be heard.
RAP and work experience- Please be sure to make your visits to the businesses who are mentoring our students. I would like a total of the number of students in each school doing green certificate/ RAP. This data will be helpful when presenting to the board tomorrow.
CRM's - we are sooo ready. When we start questioning kids that's when we need a CRM. I'm doing that with several of our kids in High Level and a few other places. These meetings will take place next week in High level and the week after in La Crete. Please check your action items.
Student Contacts- You have a list of students you are to contact, please keep that updated.
Thanks to You
Huge thanks to Alex for anchoring us these passed few months. If he got a dollar for every question he has answered, I'm betting he wouldn't still be working! He'd be golfing in Florida! Your patience with us is so appreciated. We will be giving Alex some time to complete a reorganizing of our staff drive, it will soon make sense.
Thanks to Jenine who has built such an excellent relationship with our only full time student. The student completed her Social but has decided to leave town, this is heartbreaking to us all, as she was so close to graduating. But we will wait patiently to see what our student's next move is. Jenine, we appreciate all you do for all students in Rainbow. That is an eclectic group with students from Kenya, the Philippines, students from Chateh and other students from all over Canada. So cool!
Huge thanks to Chad for looking after things while I was away. He seemed to touch down everywhere over that week. I appreciate having you as my admin partner, thanks for all you do.
Thanks to all who had anything to do with diplomas. We appreciate your time and efforts in making it a great diploma session. We did have some students walk out and not complete, anxiety will do that to ya. We need to wrap around those kids and offer some accommodations of location etc... . Our students marks will be out in a few weeks.
Thanks to Leah who has revamped so many courses including tourism and legal studies. These courses are soooo much better. We feel proud handing those courses out now.
