We Survived September 2020

We survived September 2020 and we did it with Grace! There were times we didn't know what we we're doing, being honest here. Yet we have our kids, they have their materials and are learning each day. Yeah! We survived September 2020. 

We can predict several things happening in the months to come:

  • Students will shift from on line back to schools and perhaps to us. We welcome them.
  • Some students will not be able to do what we give them, we will need to be creative in programming for these kids. Many more kids have IPP's this year. 
  • Students are going to complete assignments quickly and your marking is going to increase.
  • There will be more involvement with families with our new population. Some parents will be more demanding. Find the people who work best with those parents and make them their contact. 
  • Student communication log is vital with some many students we must keep track of each and everyone. We all can learn from the notes we put in our student communication log. 
  • We will be piloting a microsoft scheduler, which allows students to choose a time to call in/sit with the teacher. It is on line. La Crete has a schedule already that is working great. This one is electronic, we will try it in High Level and let you know if it is fabulous or does it suck for us. 
  • Budget is coming out soon. With this influx of students we will see how we are affected. 
  • CRM's are going to have to happen every four weeks to keep track of all of these students. It used to be 5 weeks. 


Staffing

Leah is out today.

Alex is out Friday.

I am out the four days next week and Monday the 19th. Steve's eye appointment is that day. Steve Roberts meets Dr. Steve Roberts so cool. 

Chad will be principaling those days. 

LTM is on Wednesday- I will be signing into that LTM from home. 




This week:

Diploma sittings/students registration for diplomas- Please look at your numbers and let's see if we have to close some schools to students those days. Are your numbers huge? It is only one month until these diplomas. 

Parent teacher interviews by phone- We will find out more at the LTM as to their expectations of us. We will let you know what that will entail. 

Outdoor playground composting will be done this week by grade ones and some of our students. 

Recognition Draws- draws will be held in each location at the end of the month. Tickets are given out for attendance, handing in modules, making teacher contacts, particpating in courses  and for kind acts. Our budget until we know more, is $250.

IPP summary will be completed this week. Gives you a very quick summary of the needs of any IPP students so we can cater our teaching to the student. These ipps will be updated in the month to come using Dossier. Jen Perry will assist us with that process.

Report Card Week A terrific way to catch up with our kids, a time to think deeply about that student and where they are going. A teacher always asks themselves , how well do i know that student. If the answer is not well, we seek to get to know them better next semester. Report Cards are valuable to the student and their families and the process is so valuable to us. We can always do better.  Thank Yous Thanks  so much to all of you who took in the PD last week. Speedy Memo

While on the airplane, I looked quizzically at the woman beside me wearing a mask... Ha! Turns out She knew germs were flying around that plane. Now, I have those sickness germs and she's partying somewhere! Note to self...masks look ridiculous but keep you germ-free!!!  Or perhaps the story goes this way... she had some horrible cold and it seeped out from her mask to infect me... Either way, she has a part to play in this mini illness, of that I am sure!   Lots going on this week- please remember that we are 1 week from May our kids need to pour it on these next few weeks.   Stanley Cup playoffs are continuing with just a few rounds to finish. Go Toronto, go Winnipeg!  Report cards are due Wed they go home on Friday. Parent-teacher interviews are happening in the weeks ahead. Action

This week in our CRM's we talked about our students and assigned actions to several. We are starting to figure this out;  people are coming forward to volunteer to do that action. In the past, we sat back waiting to see who might be assigned. Now, you are developing relationship with these students and are saying, " I can do that, I know her pretty well." or " I'd like to try to make contact with him, I have a soft spot for him."  That is the way CRM's are supposed to function, thank you for stepping up. CRM's ground us for the month to come. No kid is falling through the cracks without us grabbing his or her arm and trying to pulling him back on track. Wow! Cliche ville there! All English teachers are cringing!  Congratulations Congratulations to Eva, Bonnie, Dean and Jenine.
