FAIRVIEW, Alta. — An 18-year-old man was shot at a college parking lot in northwestern Alberta Sunday night.
RCMP Sgt. Jack Poitras said the man was wounded at the Fairview campus of Grande Prairie Regional College.
"One person was out of the vehicle. The second vehicle showed up and started shooting at the other vehicle in the parking lot area,'' Poitras said Monday.
"As a result the subject that was out of the vehicle was injured.''
The man was in critical condition and was being treated at an Edmonton hospital.
RCMP said classes were not in session at the time.
"I think it was just a coincidence that these people were there last night,'' Poitras said.
Officers located the suspect vehicle and gave chase but called off their pursuit for public safety reasons.
No one has been arrested.

Fairview College is his school.
So many times we think, never us, but the reality is that we are going to know of many a situation like this in our lifetime. This one was up north and close to me.
As  schools we must be prepared for any situation. In any situation we remain CALM and COOL so the blood stays in our brain and does not rush to our skin!!!!
1. Safety of all individuals comes first.
Locking yourself and any students down in a secure area of the school would be a first move.
2. If you have the means, call 911- stay put, stay quiet.
3. You are  only come out of the lock down when the police call off the lock down. You have no idea whats going on outside the door.
4. The All call system may be utilized after to inform parents students etc.. of the status of the school. (this was not used at this school and students flooded to school for classes this morning when they should have stayed away)
All communication to citizens or press about an incident at school comes from the principal/principal designate or central office personnel.
