Educators as Mentors
Each day , sometimes without knowing, we mentor our students. How do we do that?
We ensure their needs are met.
We answer their questions.
We check in with our students.
We guide them in a direction.
We role model great relationships with our colleagues.
We assess their readiness for the next step...
We assist them in creating plans and goals.
We have an, " I make my own weather, ' attitude.
We are tough when they need us to be.
Thanks for being mentors to our students.
Happenings
Nicole's son Nicholas woke up at 2:00 Sunday morning with a stomach ache. By 2:00 Sunday afternoon, Nicholas had his appendix out. We are thankful Nicole and Gary acted quickly, as that hour and a half drive could have been a problem, if his appendix burst. All is well today because they knew he needed a doctor. Thank goodness for excellent medical care in High Level. Thanks to Marc and Nancy who stayed with Gary and Nicole through the operation. I saw Nicholas last night and he was still groggy, but was doing very well.
Purdy's chocolates have arrived in High Level. Thanks to staff in High Level for packaging up the orders. There are a lot of chocolates to sort and it takes a team to do it. I understand Mr. Toms is an expert.
Report cards go out on April 13th. That means they should all be done and ready to be read on April 11th. Please let me know if you have any questions about this set of report cards.
It is confirmed La Crete is getting new flooring. They are picking out the waterproof plank flooring this week. It should be laid by the First of May.
Zama's new student arrives next Tuesday. We are all very excited to meet Shabib and his family.
Huge thanks to Joanne Ducharme from the Native Friendship Center for assisting our students in building resumes and touring them around Alberta Works. Petra went with the students and saw how involved the students were in building their resumes and finding out what skills they have.
High Level hosts Connie Batt this week. She will be teaching Pysanky Easter Egg decorating. She will be in La Crete in three weeks. Thanks to Mr. T for getting the papers out to the students as a precursor to completing the course.
Keep your eyes open for an adventure camp this summer. Students pay $180 for two weeks of camp that could see them accruing up to 15 credits.
Summer School, we have been asked to arrange a summer school session for students. This schooling will go for three weeks from July 4 to 21st. The teacher will do three days in High Level and two in La Crete. Mileage would be paid and you are paid on grid. That's all I know so far. I have to open it up to our staff first. If no staff are interested then it will be advertised. This can also be a shared position where a teacher takes it for 10 days and the other teacher takes it for ten days. We are going to take tons of data to see if summer school is feasible and if our new superintendent wants it to happen. I didn't budget for this, not sure where that pile of money is coming from, very interested to see how it goes.
I mentioned staff members boys who are graduating both Eva and Petra have boys graduating. Well, Jenine has Bailey graduating this year. She is her last one to leave home, what a celebration this will be for the family.
