Two Lonely Geese
Ever arrive somewhere really early and feel a bit out of place? That's how the two geese I saw yesterday, will be feeling when we get our next blizzard. There's little food for them yet. It is still freezing in the evenings and we know we aren't done with snow. They took a gamble, maybe they are right, spring is here.
Staffing
As always my schedule looks differently on diploma weeks. I am not getting to each location this week, so sorry.
Monday- High Level- Meetings with central office personnel 1:00
Tuesday- High Level Wing Ding- Fort in the afternoon
Wednesday- Leadership Meeting in Fort Vermilion
Thursday- Rainbow Lake to read a test to a student.
Friday- Zama or La Crete need to figure that one out yet.
Next week I am in La Crete for two full days April 11 and 12.
No staff are out this week as per my records.
Events / Programming/ Instruction
Diplomas- this week is diploma week. Those who are administering must read the administration guidelines as per Alberta Education's Guidelines to Diploma Administration Document. I will come around to make sure you have what you require for the administration of the exams. There is no situation that we can't handle.
La Crete Learning Store will be closed on the mornings of Wednesday, April 5th and Friday April 7th. There are so many kids writing we do not have room for everyone.
High Level Has a health Wing Ding on Tuesday. The theme is getting to know yourself. Gail has a much nicer way of saying it than I do. We would love to start having these in all of our locations. We will investigate this further so this can happen next year.
Eric and Holly are both up for 15 year long service awards this year. Our hopes are that many of us can attend the awards to cheer them on. Put it on your calendar. If i knew what the date was I would tell you??? It is in May.
Zama gets a new student today. He is six years old his name is Shabib. Nicole will be working closely with him to assist with his transition. He has been living in Bangladesh for the past three months. Such excitement.
Budget- We are on target in both locations. We have some capital expenditures happening in La Crete and High Level. Blinds in High Level and possibly cupboards in La Crete. We will have both of those figured out by the end of this week.
Personal days/ medical days/days in lieu etc...- It would be so appreciated if you could get those absence requests into us asap. Subs are difficult to find and much easier to find when we book well ahead of time. Thanks so much for this.
Summer school- I am still talking to Mike about this, we have a meeting on Wednesday.
Adventure Camps- This is an opportunity for our students to get credits while learning new skills. The cost is $180, the division would cover the costs for anyone who couldn't pay that cost. More information is coming out soon. They will be hiring two positions, 2 teachers and 2 summer students.
Personnel- Mr. Pittman sent out a survey to staff concerning their plans for next year. That is a voluntary survey.
Report cards do not go out until "April 21st."
However, thoughts are you might like to have them done before your holiday. So I am leaving that up to you. I had said I wanted them by the 11th. Sticking to that would leave you with no reports to do on your well deserved holiday. Now you may be the one who loves doing reports on the holiday, if that is you, please touch base with me to tell me when your reports will come into me. These reports are your chance to give the student /parents info if you don't talk to them often.
Contact with students is an absolute expectation. Teachers should be making contact with their students at least every two weeks. We are mentors to these students and contact allows them know we are here for them and we actually care. Thanks so much for doing that. We see fewer students quitting when we keep in touch.
Enjoy these eight days. We know there is an energy differential right now. Students have way more energy than we do. These eight days are our chance to get lots of work done before our kids go off to work on the farm/ outside/ or just walk around town. Please use this time wisely.
Have a great week.
I really appreciate your Monday Morning Blog Anne. I don't believe there is a time where your comments and/or your pictures have failed to put a smile on my face. This is a great way to start the week off. Thank you!!
