Compliments Work Wonders
Just an example of how communicating with this kid went:
text one: Hi D was hoping you'd come in today. You got so much done a few weeks ago.
No response.
text two: Not sure what you are up to today. It's a good day to come start with some modules.
No response
text three: Hi D, lots of students dropping by the school today. Drop in and we will get you started on some modules.
No response
text four: When you don't hand in work for 30 days we send out an inactive letter. I sure don't want to send one out to you. Come in and we will start you with some modules.
No response
text five: Hey there D, great news We are doing your credit count and you have 25. You earned a free hoodie. Come on in to get your free hoodie. Mrs. Isaacs has it for you.
Response: That is sweet! Thanks. I should be in on Monday to get more work.
All I can think of is that my tone changed then he was ready to communicate. Telling a student they got a good mark on a module is a great reason to text. Updating them on their credit count thanking them for coming in the day before. Lesson learned!!!

High Level meeting trying for 2:00 on Monday.
La Crete meeting trying for 3:00 on Tuesday.
Rainbow meeting will take place on Thursday pm (or on the phone Thursday.)
Fort meeting Tuesday am.
Blue Hills will happen next week.
Zama will take place Monday next week- I'll be there Monday.
If by chance you ever set off the alarm just send me a little text. They always call me and it would save me running to the school if I could tell them what's up.
We can still get work from kids for two more weeks. Seek them out.
Diploma Prep- There are students we know are going to be writing in January. We need to ensure they have everything they need to prep well for this test. It may include one on one instruction to ensure they understand everything that is expected of them.
Christmas get-togethers. We have 6 of them happening this year. My goals is to make all six. How much fun will that be.
Our staff meeting/Christmas get together is on December 15th. All schools that are usually open will remain open, except no teacher will be coming to Rainbow Lake that day.
It begins at 11:00. In lieu of gifts, we are going to donate $20 or any amount you wish to Fort Vermilion FCSS. This community does not have a huge business base, yet has many families in need. It is a potluck, we will start a google doc which outlines what people are bringing. Looking forward to being together. We know Lisa cant make it as she is in a Christmas performance at the school that day. Mark will be in GP with his daughter.
Personally- This is the week when you can get ahead of Christmas. Using time wisely this week can have you actually enjoying your home and your family in the weeks to come. I'm sending parcels off to Ontario. What will you do this week? That is our Christmas blog question? How will you prepare for the holiday/Christmas/Xmas?
I will hand out the gift card at the staff gathering. If I owe you for a blog response please remind me and I will have it ready that day.
More walls getting washed this week. Get that out of the way before the fun begins...baking!
ReplyDeleteWhat will I do this week? Get caught up with marking/reporting/documenting/planning/meetings... Man, you take one day off and all the work just piles up!
ReplyDeleteShopping is finito! Gonna start wrapping in the evenings, after the babes are in bed!
ReplyDeleteMailed 42 Christmas cards and our gifts for our parents today...buying all of my baking supplies this weekend...returning the broken Christmas tree that has now fried two adapters over two years to Costco this weekend as well... hauling back a new tree. Woohoo! Fun times! Thank goodness for online shopping is all I can say!
ReplyDeleteMy wife will do some online shopping while I supervise. Will try to limit the number of takes for the perfect family picture to be mailed out as a Christmas card to friends and family. We will also try to keep our Christmas tree in one piece until Christmas. It's not easy when both your kids decide to "redecorate" it every day!
