Blue Monday Really???

See how this fellow reacts to the Blue Monday ideal, that this day is the most depressing one of the year, makes me want to hug someone.

We are officially half way through January and already noticing more daylight. It is a busy month time to reconnect with our students. I am busy tracking down a few.

Semester change is coming in the High Schools so we can expect some students to walk through our doors in a couple of weeks.

Enjoy your week, diplomas resume next week.

Staffing

Mark has been reassigned to Blue Hills Community School. Those students are so fortunate to have him as their teacher. He will be living in a home across the street from the school. When the ice bridge is in he will be driving each day.

Zama is not closed, only the board can make that decision. Janet is still working each day, paying bills, organizing the school and fielding calls etc..

Instruction and Programming

Please note that you are responsible for inputting your absence requests and absences. using Atrieve you go in and make the request, it comes to me if it's one day, and I okay it. If you are asking for travel days or two days then central will approve it. Please let us assist you if need be, as this is the way it will be going from now on.

Where we can, we will have our CRM meetings this week. Please look at your notes and see if you have done the action items noted.

High Level- Friday 3:00
La Crete- Thursday 3:00
Rainbow- Wednesday-
Fort Vermilion - Tuesday

The school division is travel to each school location to have meetings with students, staff and parents to create our three-year plan. The process is pretty cool administrators took part last week. Takes only a short time. We have meetings that we are to attend at each location. High Level ( today) and La Crete (Tuesday) meetings are this week. We are looking for some students to attend a lunch meeting in those communities, free food! I will ask those students.

Diplomas- We did seek a weather exemption for students we knew were coming in to write. There is a ton of paperwork for that, let's hope that the weather cooperates next week. Thank you to all who supervised and organized and your students. Teacher's duty is to prepare students for their exams, thank you for making sure that they are ready.

Bill 24 has received Royal assent- our division is awaiting guidelines from the province.

Leave of absence requests must be made by the 31st of March.

Banked time is inputted by Bonnie.

Recruiting Trips will take place next week. Several administrators are heading out to Thunder Bay and to New Brunswick and Halifax. It is getting tougher to find teachers.

La Crete will be doing Grade 9 PATS with a few students. We will pick the dates on Tuesday.

CIF is happening January 30th. I will be meeting with Kurtis Hewson about CRM.

Student Fees as it stands we have none. Do we need to charge fees?? If so we need to write a proposal to Norman by months end.

Accountability Pillar Survey- Our School Survey- We will be starting these surveys in a week or two.

Solaro- Your thoughts?? Did anyone access it and try it out??

Remember we make our own weather. Today I choose... the heat of Cuba!

Have a wondrous week.

  2. Jess Osmond and I gave Solaro a trial run for math and science. We found it was good for reviewing material but not detailed/instructional enough to be effective for teaching the concepts/skills. Our students didn't find it user-friendly and expressed discomfort at doing their courses in front of a computer. There was a parent in Fort who had particular issues with it -
I will try to remember her name. Mike would know. Out of 10+ students we had on it, I don't think any of them completed their courses. I will look for my notes from when we did the trial back in 2014.
