Diploma week is always a busy week for us. Diplomas run this entire week and into next for biology 30. Huge thanks go out to Alex who will be supervising that diploma for this student. He will get a day in lieu when he's able to enjoy a golf game I would imagine. 

Schedules

Diploma week has our schedules changing

No teacher is going to Rainbow this week except me to pick up diplomas and to supervise a diploma. 

No teachers will go to Fort this week as teachers are supervising exams. 

No teacher will go to Blue Hills this week.

Thinking About

Our community of Fort Vermilion has suffered through a week of loss with five community members passing away, young to old.  Many of our students have connections to these people. One student relayed connections to all of these people. We need to watch out for our students and let them know school is their safe, calm place. Always let them know we are here, to hear them out if they need a listener. 

Thursday will be jersey day at all school in the division.
If you wish to wear a jersey to show support for the Humboldt Broncos please do. This tragedy has us all making connections. Many of us are hockey parents, hockey is our game, we have kids the ages of these kids, we have staff members from Saskatchewan, we travel the roads all the time... Our hearts are with all families of these kids and the community of Humboldt.

Report cards go out April 27th. Please have report card in by April 25th. 

Nait comes to High level on April 25th. If we have interest in schools we will bus kids in. They are focusing on carpentry this visit. Two journeymen are coming to High Level to work with students. 

Reminder if you have not held a course this year time is running out. Our expectation is that each staff member facilitates one course in the year. Just let us know when you'd like to do it and we will put it on the calendar. 

Well deserved break.
Many of us will be traveling and giving our minds and our bodies a break from Winter. I wish you safe, uneventful travels. I also wish you fun-filled adventures. For those staying home, enjoy! The best holidays ever are the ones spent in your own home.

Report Card Week A terrific way to catch up with our kids, a time to think deeply about that student and where they are going. A teacher always asks themselves , how well do i know that student. If the answer is not well, we seek to get to know them better next semester. Report Cards are valuable to the student and their families and the process is so valuable to us. We can always do better.  Thank Yous Thanks  so much to all of you who took in the PD last week. From chatting with you my thoughts were the sessions were valuable.  Thanks  to all who are organizing the Wing Ding in High Level this Tuesday. Many local organizations are coming in to inform our students.  Thanks to all who made student contacts this week. Talking personally to our kids seems to make a difference.  Staffing We are close to hiring for the position in Fort. Speedy Memo

While on the airplane, I looked quizzically at the woman beside me wearing a mask... Ha! Turns out She knew germs were flying around that plane. Now, I have those sickness germs and she's partying somewhere! Note to self...masks look ridiculous but keep you germ-free!!!  Or perhaps the story goes this way... she had some horrible cold and it seeped out from her mask to infect me... Either way, she has a part to play in this mini illness, of that I am sure!   Lots going on this week- please remember that we are 1 week from May our kids need to pour it on these next few weeks.   Stanley Cup playoffs are continuing with just a few rounds to finish. Go Toronto, go Winnipeg!  Report cards are due Wed they go home on Friday. Parent-teacher interviews are happening in the weeks ahead. It's Okay to Have Bad Days

I had to reassure myself that it is okay to have a bad day when flying back from Toronto.  Firstly, my flight was delayed in leaving, which meant I would miss my connector to GP.  Steve had to drive to Edmonton in the rain to get me. Next, I got on the plane and a very tall very intimidating man was sitting in my window seat. I get it,  planes are small and he just wouldn't fit in the center but I would! I sat pretzeled  in the middle, but maybe this wouldn't be so bad... I was so ready to chow down on my wine gums and potato chips, (food calms me),  when the passenger to the left of me sat down. He was the guy in the restaurant who already witnessed me eating a whole plate of gravy covered poutine and drinking a tall, light colored brew!! Crap! I then listen to how he has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and has run 38 marathons around the world, he is doing his 39th next week.
