So much to say...
I have tried to include what some of us will be doing for our holidays. If you can match the picture to the person I will put your name in for a gift card draw. Bonnie won last time. Perhaps it could be your time.
Bonnie and I presented at the Collaborative Response Model conference on Thursday. We only had six people in attendance, however we realize we are specialized. Those in attendance told us they really enjoyed our story and complimented us. We will share the presentation with you sometime. It hinged on the premise that all of us in Learning Stores are mentors to these kids... every single one of us has the opportunity to have someone's heart. CRM's allow us to really delve into the question, how is this student doing with us? Are they moving forward and what must we put in place for him/her to move forward.
The supports we offer in each tier assist the student to keep moving forward with academics and socio/emotionally. Bonnie and I found several resources that can assist us in more clearly defining our tier supports. We learned the student is not in tier two but requires the supports of tier two. the student isn't in tier four, he requires tier 4 supports. It's all in the language.
We have plans to redo our norms/rules of the meetings. People will come prepared. Time management is key. Defining the roles of interruptor, timekeeper and recorder will be done. We will refine our process. We will hard schedule the CRM's. When we do that they must happen.
Many thanks to Bonnie who assisted in creating the presentation, presented excellently and had many conversations with other school to grow our process. We appreciate the time she took away from her family to go to this conference.
What is Going On This Week
You have five days to go, to have 10 calm relaxing days of freedom. Seems like a fair trade 5 for 10. Enjoy your time. I am going to Trenton, Ontario to care for my Mom while my sister is away. I'm going on Swoop airlines, pretty sure I will see be pterodactyl on the wings. ( Flintstone reference)
Diplomas- just a few more to go- Thanks you to everyone who rallied round to cover all of these diplomas. It is a disruption to our teaching, however, I see it as one step closer to graduation. We want every student to graduate. Chad travelled most for these diplomas, we appreciate his efforts.
Teacher's you should already have identified any students who could be writing diplomas in June. You go through every student you have and make that decision. You let Eva or Bonnie know and then we are set. In addition to that, you should have identified student's who require readers or scribes or a small room to write in. Let me know about accommodations required.
Report cards are going out the last week of April. Let me know when you are done. This report card period will be followed by home visits. The first week of May.
This week is a great week to catch up with students and make sure they have enough materials for our ten days off. Do the students know we are closed for 10 days??
Student contact lists- please be sure to update the contact list each week. We write notes for all students not just our own. Other schools are impressed by our student contacts document.
Clean up week- this week is a great week to do a big clean in each place. Our janitors will be in while we are out. Cleaning and organizing this week will help them out tremendously. If we don't love it and don't use it, it needs a new home. Set it free.
