Ah Finally!!!
Let us thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your calm and collectedness (new word)during the past week. You really are the embodiment of smart, caring, forward thinking staff. We know things will get dicier before they get better but we will handle things with class and grace like always.
Please care for yourself. Stay off the news. Watching the news is a recipe for total depression. If you do watch, watch for a short time then go be productive in other ways. Take hot showers, cook good meals, take your vitamins, go walking ( like Reme gives Alex a choice). You are always so kind to others, be kind to yourself.
Finally today, we get to quickly touch base with our students and set them on their pstsh to completing this year.
You've got to impart to students that this is a time, when they are confined to their homes, to jump ahead with their academics. (or in some cases get back on track)
With our guidance they will end the year off with successes. Our grads will graduate and our other students will move along. This is a hopeful message. The kids need a hopeful message.
Please be aware that each family is handling the daily situation differently. Some families are in fright and flight mode. Some families are in financial distress. Some families watch the news all day long and are depressed. Some are not isolating at all and won't understand you wanting to physically distance. You must make them aware of what physical distancing is. some families are rocking this and making it a time to be creative and have fun with their kids. Think about that student's situation when you see him/her today. Our job is to access how they are doing and to let them know the staff is available to them until June 19th. Their new normal is school without coming in the school.
I so wished I could be there today it's like missing the first day of school!!

Staffing
Steve and I did do cov 19 testing, we did travel out of the country and did have cold and flu like symptoms. Test results came back negative. Thank you God! Steve is no longer showing signs of being sick however, i do have this one lung that is still not happy. I cough and cough. Soon that will be cleared up and I will get to return to working at the school not just from home.
So, this does mean we have adjusted Allan's time. He is working Mon, Tues, Wed and we will see if we need him come Thursday and Friday.
Dean is in Fort handing out modules to students today.
Kayleen is in Rainbow handing out modules to our full time students today.
Chad is back working. He will supervise La Crete today.
Annelise is working from home with permissions from Scot Leys.
" Have we said thank you to winter yet? It is so much easier to isolate in -10 than +30 in Florida. Thank you winter!!"
What's Going On
Today we are handing out materials.
I want to thank you so much for preparing those materials prior to students arriving as the students can not stay in the school. Students are not waiting 15 minutes in our school for materials! We made that clear from day one, it is just so important to follow that guideline Mike set out.
We will be contacting students starting today and tomorrow. We will be going over their plans. Grads are first on our contact list.
We have already reviewed every students education plans and know what they are to be working on. Some students have been awarded a final mark for having completed 50% of the work in a course. Those will be signed off by me, when I can get my freaking butt in the school. ARGH!!!
Students can access mental health asssitance as always, through a referral. Direct kids where needed, some may have lost jobs etc...
Today we can not feed them, or offer them coffee or bathrooms. It is a quick in and out please. We will love them through the phone.
Please give out my number if need be. I will be working your hours.
I have napped every single afternoon this weekend. I am hoping I don't fall asleep on ya!
There is a conference call for adminstrators this afternoon at 3:45. I will give you a low down as soon as that is over. Mike did do another video chat with the community. When people say Mike said.... We are dealing with an almost adult population and we do things differently at the learning stores. For example,we are not booking interview times with teachers they can talk to us any time.
Please remember things are changing by the minute. The more people we get to this week the better.
Enjoy seeing the students. I am envious!
" There is beauty all around you. If you don't see it you've been watching too much TV, have been on your phone too much and haven't been seeing! Beauty is out there. Yesterday, steve and I went on a bear hunt. I found 29 bears in people's windows! See beauty!"
