Budget Cuts Looming

Each time we read the news we discover new education cuts. Outreach was not left untouched. The details of those cuts will come tomorrow at our LTM. We handle things like this with calm. We are Outreach staff, our kids float through their lives handling the ups and downs and so do we. Can't wait to have a chat with Mike and find out more details. Those details will be relayed in our staff meeting on Friday morning in La Crete. Where are the next cuts? Seems all the vulnerable students funding has been cut, who could possibly be left?

What's Up

 Thank you for doing the accountability pillar with our students. 

 Accomodations- I have only one request for accommodations on the diploma from Rainbow Lake. Were there more?

 Headstrong- Our students 2 from High Level and one from La Crete represented well. I will share a story with you at the staff meeting. These students will now set up an area where wellness is the focus. Our kids picked the bathrooms. They wanted to put up quotes in there. It is a start. One student self referred.

 Work, work, work. Our kids need to know this is the perfect month to get things done. March can be a long month but not is they are focussed on getting things done this month. 

 ADLC core courses- Last date to sign up is March 27th. That means if a student is wanting to pick up a core course through ADLC we must register them before this time.  This dead line is huge, there are few exceptions to this rule. We have an ADLC info session in April, I will let you know more. Also a note, ADLC isn't truly being cut 7 million in year two, they had 5 million in reserves for new course development that they never used, so the government is making them use that money. Whole different story there. 

 Marking- Just a note when you are marking please mark the work with the oldest turn in date first. We guarantee our students a week turnaround time. I think most of us are well under that. However, we must mark according to dates please. 

 CRM- High Level had theirs. Now we have action items
Fort CRM- will take place Thursday am.
La Crete- CRM will take place on Friday after our meeting.
Rainbow CRm will take place next week.

 Graduates- We have two grads already. One in Rainbow and one in High Level, yeah!!! Are there more out there???

 La Crete has first aide taking place this week and High Level has a few going to first aide as well.

Report Card Week A terrific way to catch up with our kids, a time to think deeply about that student and where they are going. A teacher always asks themselves , how well do i know that student. If the answer is not well, we seek to get to know them better next semester. Report Cards are valuable to the student and their families and the process is so valuable to us. We can always do better.  Thank Yous Thanks  so much to all of you who took in the PD last week. Speedy Memo

While on the airplane, I looked quizzically at the woman beside me wearing a mask... Ha! Turns out She knew germs were flying around that plane. Now, I have those sickness germs and she's partying somewhere! Note to self...masks look ridiculous but keep you germ-free!!!  Or perhaps the story goes this way... she had some horrible cold and it seeped out from her mask to infect me... Either way, she has a part to play in this mini illness, of that I am sure!   Lots going on this week- please remember that we are 1 week from May our kids need to pour it on these next few weeks.   Stanley Cup playoffs are continuing with just a few rounds to finish. Go Toronto, go Winnipeg!  Report cards are due Wed they go home on Friday. Parent-teacher interviews are happening in the weeks ahead. Those dates will be solidified this week.  PAT part A is in for grade nines. That is written middle of May. Nait comes to High Level. A counselor and two journeyman carpenters are coming to

This week in our CRM's we talked about our students and assigned actions to several. We are starting to figure this out;  people are coming forward to volunteer to do that action. In the past, we sat back waiting to see who might be assigned. Now, you are developing relationship with these students and are saying, " I can do that, I know her pretty well." or " I'd like to try to make contact with him, I have a soft spot for him."  That is the way CRM's are supposed to function, thank you for stepping up. CRM's ground us for the month to come. No kid is falling through the cracks without us grabbing his or her arm and trying to pulling him back on track. Wow! Cliche ville there! All English teachers are cringing!  Congratulations Congratulations to Eva, Bonnie, Dean and Jenine.
