Stories
This is the best story I have read in a while!! It is at the High Level Library! Excellent Read!
Think about it... our days are spent telling stories. When we stop and chat with a friend in the grocery store, we tell a story or two. When we call family, we listen to a story and tell stories. Each day has it's own story to be told.
This weekend, I attended a friends 60th birthday celebration. I must have told 20 stories about my kids, High level and the summer fun we had. In turn, I must have listened to 30 stories. Think about it, our days are wrapped around the stories we tell each other. The same is true with students. There is a story for their weekend, a story about work or a story about friends. Sometimes, they even tell them to us... That's an honor to be chosen as the listener of one of their stories.
Have a story filled week.
This is the story of couples finances. A very good book for couples at any age!! Smart things couples need to do to have healthy finances and who doesn't want that!! Perfect for single people too.
This book tells the story of thousands of awesome things. Such a fabulous read and such a fabulous frame of mind to be in.
Thanks to you
Thanks to Lisa who is our educational assistant in Blue Hills. She hosted me last week. There are 10 students there who are excited about learning. That is a lovely start.
Thanks to Holly and Bonnie who have plans for our meal program in High Level. We are piloting this and hope to have it happen in a different way in each location.
Thanks to Darren, Eva and Alex we completed our first Response to Intervention meeting. I feel I know the students better now.
Thanks to Holly, Petra, Eric ,Bonnie and Paul who created lists of student contacts for each of us in High Level. Concentrating on ten kids is easy- 60 not so much.
Thanks to Mark for organising a field trip to Rocky Acres for their fall celebration. He loves to make learning fun and field trips are a neat way to do that.
Thanks to Jenine for working to get a student into sports in her school. He will attend the cross country divisionals in Rocky in October.
Wanting to challenge your mind??? The stories in thins book will do that. It includes words such as: abyss, metaphysics and protagonist. Such a cool read!! You'll be smarter after this read.

Instruction and Programming
Education Plans for Zama and learning Stores are due tomorrow. Feeling good about them but still looking to cut them down a bit.
Diploma results PAT results will soon be available. Data drives the Ed plan and perhaps change it again. Our tell them from me data at the Learning Stores said 60% of students have a sense of belonging, that was very high in relation to Canada but in my mind that is extremely low, so our ed. Plan deals with that disconnectedness.
- Headstrong Student Conference:
- A Headstrong Mental Health Student Conference entitled “Stomp Out the Stigma” will take place on October 18th in High Level at the High Level Christian Fellowship Church from 9:30 - 3 pm. This Student Conference, organized and funded by the Northern Lights RCSD, is intended to empower student leaders to return to their schools and work with other students and staff to address the stigma that exists around Mental Health. Each of the FVSD junior/senior high schools can send up to 5 students from grades 8 through 11 and supervisor(s) to this event. All costs associated with the Conference as well as bussing for students will be covered by the Northern Lights RCSD. Lunch will be provided as well. More information will be shared at the LTM.
This is an excellent opportunity for our students. each school should send students. Bussing is available.
Student Numbers:
Zama holding at 6 up by 2- fingers crossed this stays this way.
High Level - 63 up by 14
La Crete- 40 up by 2
Fort- 4 met projection
The story is that numbers are close to meeting projections around the division.
Friday PD Day- We will meet at the High Level Learning Store and go over for 8:30. You have the Dylan Williams book you might like to look it over for a deeper understanding on Friday.
Some of us get to listen to Dylan Williams story on Friday
Have a lovely week listening to stories of all kinds.
Is there a story you remember as a child, or do you have a favourite story you tell. There will be a draw for two gift cards for responses to the blog this week.

I am having a hard time thinking of favorite story from childhood, but am enjoying being the Dad to 2 boys who love books and am always thrilled to read to them. Dr. Suess was always a hit with me and is also with my boys (as well as anything including a truck :) )
ReplyDeleteOh I just thought of a wonderful story teller from my growing up years. There was an older gentlemen from my growing up years who mentored me in my late teens. He always had many stories from back in the day and all of the amazing things that have happened in his life.
DeleteI remember constantly listening to my dad's interesting stories about his youth growing up, and I still hear the same ones to this day. In fact, I am now able to repeat those stories to my dad whenever he retells them at the dinner table over the summer. I think I will continue this tradition with my girls.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite stories is of teaching Grade 12 English - Lord of the Flies. With the VP in my room doing an observation, we got into a discussion about building shelters (team Ralph) vs hunting pigs (team Jack). I asked the kids "Why do all the boys want to hunt instead of build, when both jobs are valuable, require hands-on work out in the fresh air, and benefit the group?" After a few responses one boy put up his hand and said "Mrs. Rennie, it's like this: Imagine both groups are teachers. Building shelters is like being an English teacher. Hunting is like being a Phys. Ed. teacher. Yeah, the hunters are technically still 'teaching', but really, they're just running around having way more fun with no homework to do!" Lolol! Concerned about ethics, I looked over at the VP, but he couldn't control himself either. We laughed our heads off! Sorry, Phys Ed teachers!
