Keep Calm and Plan On

Some students come to us with no plan to graduate. When we sit with them and put that plan together, they realise that it can be accomplished. The road to graduation is never a straight forward one,( not for most kids), there are many twists and bends in that road. The end result is... the student graduates. They learn that hard work is okay, being inconvenienced is okay, getting frustrated is okay, waking up early is okay. I thank all of you for getting our students to graduation, it takes us all caring about them, to get them there.

This passed few weeks I have had two conversations with students re: an imbalance of energy. When we are putting more energy in than they are, we have a problem. I told both students that scenario is unacceptable. They must put their energy into their work, we are not doing the work for them.

Notes this week:

Our schools have separate Pd days this week. La Crete's PD day is May 10th everywhere else is May 11th. Several people are out this week.

Fort Vermilion is Rocking. It is so busy. Kids have caught on that Levi is a rock star. He has done so much to build up this program. We appreciate all his energy.  Levi and Sharon are moving back to Newfoundland this summer. We will be advertising for Levi's position in the weeks ahead.

Part A of the PAT test will be administered this week in High Level and La Crete.

In High Level there is a family fun night at Spirit Trails which includes dinner and many cool activities. starts at 5 goes till 7.

Zama school is getting organised. Janet and I are sorting through items. I am distributing materials to schools which need them. Are we in need of anything? If so please let me know as I am building a capital expenditures plan. I am going to put chair replacement down for most locations, anything else???

High Level Learning Store is having a seedling exchange BBQ on May 31st. Our hopes are to acquire seedlings for our community garden and outdoor classroom.

New Staff: Learning Stores welcome Allan Spelrem to the .6 Social Studies English position. Mike has asked that Allan report to Learning Stores for the rest of the year. Allan will have plenty of time to learn about his new role. I will meet with Allan to discuss his schedule.

New Staff: We welcome Chad Fyke to Northern Home Education. We will meet with Dean Wheeler on Thursday May 10th to go over his role in Northern Home Education.

Endings are just as important as beginnings. We are preparing for the year end celebrations in each location.  My hopes are that my grand baby will stick to his/ her due date and come on June 22nd that works with my schedule. Do babies follow schedules????

Intervention checks through Child and Family services. The school division requires all FVSD staff to have this check done by September.  In High Level it is easy... you just pop over the CFS and bring two pieces of ID. It takes only 5 minutes. In other locations CFS is going there. The schedule will be out soon. I will print off some forms so you will have it filled out before to make it faster. Stay tuned for those dates.

Recruiting- a contingent of people are going to Newfoundland this week to recruit teachers. Our expectation is to hire approximately 30 teachers. Our contract states that if you are planning to leave you are to give notice by May 30th.

Year end wards dinner- Please let Bonnie know if you are going. We'd love to celebrate with you.

Graduation ceremonies are no longer all on the same weekend. Administration in each community will decide on what date best serves the community. This helps Learning Stores be in attendance for these grads.

May 14th CRM leaders Lorna and Kurtis Hewson will speak to all administrators about the process. Do you have any comments on the CRM's that I can take back to them?

Fees- We can charge no fees. no rentals, no anything.

Winnipeg plays tonight. Our Canadian hopeful is still in. They are a better team than Nashville they should win.

Are we keeping track of our common assessments on a form??? I will be checking with everyone about this as Scot is requiring it be done.

August 30th PD foundational knowledge and Indigenous content. Please take a look at that calendar for next year note the later start date.
