Grad Class 2020
Imagine if you were in the grad class of 2020.
- Trapped in your home for two months
- not knowing when or if you will graduate this year
- worries about schooling on your own
- not being able to connect and talk to everyone about your dress, family coming from a far, perhaps worrying about how you will pay for anything
- worrying about your family, money and mental health
- oh, wait... let's throw a flood in there that destroyed your home
This class deserves to be recognized and the FVSD is doing just that. Each grad will have their photo (if they had them taken) displayed on the side of the schools. the photo is huge!
Schools are recognizing the grads by having a grad in each location. They look different, many are on different days, but each school is recognizing their grads.
This week the details at each school will be finalized. In this confusing time, we could get excluded, however, we need to make sure we are keeping in contact with the High School in our Community to ensure our students have all they need to graduate. If a student can't pay fees please let us know.
We should have a great idea of who our grads are by June 5th.
Needless to say, this is a year to remember. Our grads will most definitely never forget their grad in 2020, or will we.

What is Going On!
- Students have received their 15 credits. Take a look, for some it has them listed as a grad on their DAR. I had the greatest joy in telling one of our very hard working kids that he is a graduate. He needed only 3 more credits to graduate and they magically appeared.
- Thursday pm Secondary English PD. This PD is for Alex, Anne, Dean and Allan. The speaker is highly respected in her field. This is an online course.
- Grads should be contacted and made aware of the requirements in the next two weeks.
- Diplomas- please be sure to check to see that students are listed to write the diploma are finishing those diploma courses.
- Thursday, May 21st is a Ascension Day, some have chosen to take to take a personal day, or in the case of our part-timers a catch up day. Enjoy your day with Family.
- Please remember, we are on a short week and today is Tuesday.
- Student contacts are needed now more than ever. I can tell because of the type of messages received over the weekend. One from a frantic mom, two from frantic students. Students need to be assured that we will get them to where they need to be. Parents need to be calmed, everything will work out. Letting kids and parents know that they have received the allocated credits helps ease their worries. Getting in contact with your kids this week is imperative.
- Diplomas in August, still no word from the government on this issue.
- New courses- several people have time to spare and are creating new courses. This is time we will never get back, we need to use this time to do all those things we wished we could do with Learning Stores. Check our shared tasks form. We are updating some materials, time to get rid of the old stuff. Kiss it good bye!!
- Thank you so much- I realize other schools have slowed down while we seem to ramping up. Our kids are getting their work done. They are contacting us, they haven't stopped. Our phone rings constantly, students are engaged. Thank you for handling this transition with grace and thank you for looking for ways to make learning stores better. Only cool people like Learning Store staff could handle this wonkiness and not lose grace.
Enjoy the short week.
